ప్రతి సారి సమావేశం తర్వాత మీడియా సమావేశాలు నిర్వహించి, వారి పోరాటం, ఆశలను ప్రకటిస్తూ వచ్చారు.
ఆ పోరాటాల గురించి మనం ఏమీ మాట్లాడలేము కానీ ఇది సంవత్సరాలుగా సాగుతుండడం ఆశ్చర్యం కలిగిస్తోంది. తాజాగా కొన్ని వెబ్‌సైట్లూ, యూట్యూబ్ ఛానళ్లూ కలిపి ప్రభుత్వమే ₹7500 కనీస పెన్షన్, DA, మెడికల్ సదుపాయాలు మంజూరు చేసేసిందంటూ ప్రచారం మొదలుపెట్టాయి. గూగుల్‌లో వెతికితే చాలు — డజన్ల కొద్దీ లింకులు కనిపిస్తాయి.

వాటిలో మంత్రుల పేర్లు, కేంద్ర ప్రభుత్వమే కాదు, సుప్రీంకోర్టు పేరు కూడా బలంగా వినిపిస్తున్నాయి! గత వారంలో అయితే ఏకంగా సుప్రీంకోర్టు మినిమం పెన్షన్ ఆమోదించేసిందని కూడా వ్రాసేశారు. వీరి దుంప తెగ. సుప్రీంకోర్టు ఎందుకు ఆమోదించాలి, అసలు సుప్రీంకోర్టుని దీని లోనికి ఎందుకు లాగినట్టు.

అయితే నిజం ఏమిటి?

ప్రభుత్వం గానీ, సుప్రీంకోర్టు గానీ — ఏ అధికార వర్గం నుంచి కూడా ₹1000 నుంచి ₹7500 పెన్షన్ పెంచినట్టు అధికారిక ప్రకటన వెలువడలేదు. 2014 సెప్టెంబర్ 1నే ₹1000 కనీస పెన్షన్ ప్రారంభమైంది.

నా ఉద్దేశ్యం వారు ఇవ్వలేరని కాదు ఇవ్వడానికి సాధ్యపడదని కూడా కాదు. ఇస్తారా? దానికి ఎంత దాతృత్వ భావన ఉండాలి.

ఇటీవల పార్లమెంట్ లోనే ప్రభుత్వం స్పష్టంగా తెలిపింది — కనీస పెన్షన్ పెంచే ఎలాంటి ప్రతిపాదన లేదని.

యూట్యూబ్ ఛానల్స్ యొక్క, వార్త వెబ్ సైట్ ల యొక్క అబద్ధపు ప్రచారాలు పెద్దల మనసు గాయపరుస్తున్నాయి. చాలామంది ప్రైవేటు, పబ్లిక్ సెక్టార్‌లో పనిచేసినవారు, తక్కువ ఆదాయంతో మిగిలిన జీవితాన్ని గడుపుతున్నవారు. వ్యవస్థపై వారి నమ్మకాన్ని వమ్ము చేసే ఈ తప్పుడు వదంతులు గాఢంగా బాధిస్తాయనడంలో సందేహం లేదు.

ఈ సందర్భంలో ఒక విషయాన్ని గమనిద్దాం. 2022 నవంబరులో సుప్రీంకోర్టు తీర్పు EPS పెన్షన్ విషయంలో ఆశను కలిగించింది. కానీ ఆ అమలు ప్రక్రియ నత్తనడకతో సాగుతోంది. ఇప్పుడిప్పుడే హయ్యర్ పెన్షన్లు ఇవ్వడం మొదలుపెట్టారు. లక్షలాది మంది పెన్షనర్లు ఇంకా హయ్యర్ పెన్షన్ గురించి వేచి చూస్తున్నారు. ఇదిలా ఉంటే, మరోవైపు, కొందరు యూట్యూబ్ వీడియోల ద్వారా ఫేక్ న్యూస్‌ ద్వారా మినిమం పెన్షన్ 7500 పెంచేశారని చెబుతూ గందరగోళాన్ని సృష్టిస్తున్నాయి.

భావ ప్రకటన స్వేచ్ఛ పేరుతో ఎవరి పేరో వేసి కావాలనే తప్పుడు వార్తలు ప్రచారం చేయడం, సీనియర్ సిటిజన్స్ యొక్క మానసిక పరిస్థితితో ఆటలాడుకోవడమే. ప్రభుత్వ శాఖలు, న్యాయస్థానాల పేర్లను తప్పుడు వాడకంపై చర్య తీసుకోవాలి. సుప్రీంకోర్టు పేరును వాడేసుకోవడం అంటే అది కోర్టును అపహాస్యం చేయడమే. ఓ రకంగా కోర్టు ధిక్కరణే. రాజ్యాంగం ద్వారా సంక్రమించిన అధికారాలతో వెనువెంటనే ఇటువంటి వాటిని గౌరవ సర్వోన్నత న్యాయస్థానం కట్టడి చేయవచ్చు.

ఈపీఎస్ పెన్షనర్లు అటు ప్రభుత్వ రంగ సంస్థల్లో గాని ఇటు ప్రైవేట్ రంగ సంస్థల్లో గాని దశాబ్దాలు తరబడి పనిచేసి ఈ దేశ ఆర్థిక పరిస్థితి పరిపుష్టి కి వారు కూడా ఇతోధికం గా దోహదం చేశారనడంలో ఏమాత్రం అతిశయోక్తి లేదు. పెన్షనర్ల పట్ల గౌరవభావం ఉండాలి అంతేగాని వారి మానసిక స్థితితో ఆటలాడుకోవడం తగదు.

YouTube channels and news websites raising hopes for minimum pension – what is the plight of pensioners?

For several years, the demand for a minimum pension of ₹7500, DA and medical facilities for EPS-95 pensioners has been under discussion. In this regard, Commander Ashok Rawat, leader of the National Agitation Committee (NAC), has met the officials of the Central Labour Department and even the Prime Minister several times. After each meeting, they have been holding media conferences and announcing their struggle and hopes.

We cannot talk about those struggles, but it is surprising that this has been going on for years. Recently, some websites and YouTube channels have started a campaign claiming that the government itself has granted a minimum pension of ₹7500, DA and medical facilities. Just search on Google – dozens of links will appear. In them, the names of ministers, not only the Central Government, but also the name of the Supreme Court are mentioned strongly! Last week, they also wrote that the Supreme Court had unanimously approved the minimum pension. Their stupid tribe. Why should the Supreme Court approve it, why was the Supreme Court dragged into this.

But what is the truth?

Neither the government nor the Supreme Court — no official announcement has been made by any authority that the pension has been increased from ₹1000 to ₹7500. The minimum pension of ₹1000 started on September 1, 2014. Since then, the same has been continuing. Although the Koshyari Committee recommended a minimum pension of ₹3000 in 2011, it was not approved by the Union Cabinet. It has not been possible to increase it from ₹1000 to ₹3000 so far. Such a thing that increases it to 7500 and also provides medical facilities along with DA that increases every six months, should we think about it a little. It is not reasonable to trouble senior citizens like this. Really, it would be a great thing to be happy if a minimum pension of 7500 per month along with DA and medical facilities are also provided. The government is currently working on a minimum pension of Rs 1,000 with the government’s budget. I don’t mean that they can’t give it or that it’s not possible to give it. Will they give it? There should be a lot of generosity in that.

Recently, the government has clearly stated in the Parliament itself — there is no proposal to increase the minimum pension.

The false propaganda of YouTube channels and news websites is hurting the minds of the elderly. Many of them have worked in the private and public sectors and are living the rest of their lives with a low income. There is no doubt that these false rumors that undermine their trust in the system are deeply hurting.

Let us note one thing in this context. The Supreme Court verdict in November 2022 gave hope in the matter of EPS pension. But the implementation process is progressing at a snail’s pace. Higher pensions have only just started being given. Lakhs of pensioners are still waiting for higher pension. Meanwhile, on the other hand, some people are creating confusion by saying through YouTube videos that the minimum pension has been increased by 7500 through fake news. Even after the Supreme Court verdict, we are facing many problems with the higher pension that is paid on the basis of contribution. In such a situation, it is unbelievable that a minimum pension of 7500/- is given along with DA without paying any contribution. It is good if it is given. Let us want it to be given. But how far is it possible to say that it has been given.

Isn’t this creating distrust in individuals and systems?

Spreading false news in the name of freedom of expression is playing with the mental state of senior citizens. Action should be taken against the misuse of the names of government departments and courts. Using the name of the Supreme Court means making a mockery of the court. It is a kind of contempt of court. The honorable Supreme Court can immediately curb such things with the powers inherited from the Constitution.

What pensioners need is not hope, but reassurance.

Many pensioners are now in a state of confusion — on one hand, the hope that their pension will increase according to false news, and on the other hand, the pressure to pay the arrears for the pension increase according to EPFO. Some are asking me for advice. Since the real information is not clear, nothing can be said.

Every now and then, it seems that there is some fraudulent story behind these false propaganda? Let’s assume not.

In any case, it is essential to take legal action against news websites and YouTube channels.

It is no exaggeration to say that EPS pensioners have worked for decades in both public and private sector organizations and have contributed immensely to the economic condition of this country. There should be respect for pensioners and it is not appropriate to play with their mental state. Publish news with moral responsibility, do not lie for likes and views, please refrain.

A society is known to be prosperous only when the elderly are properly respected in that society.

The reason for writing this article is that many people are asking me how true this minimum pension information that is being spread on this website and YouTube is. I know as much as they know. But, taking advantage of the innocence of some people, these news websites are making a living by spreading false propaganda for the sake of views and earnings of YouTubers. I felt very embarrassed to see this. This article is the result of that.
