The Employees Provident Fund Organization (EPFO), which has been repeatedly instructed by the courts and has faced numerous court cases, has finally followed the bizarre practice of giving higher pensions to those who resort to the courts for justice.
The practice of giving higher pensions has also now been discontinued as per the orders issued by the Supreme Court on October 4, 2016.
Only about 24,672 pensioners received higher pensions. That too for a very short time.
The Kerala High Court, in its judgment in favor of the pensioners, held that they should get a lump sum based on the savings made in their careers and that the 2014 EPF (Lower and Higher options) amendment was illegal. The apex court also rejected a special leave petition filed by EPFO and the government in favor of pensioners.
While this problem has persisted for years, the current government, which has forgiven the huge loans taken by industrialists that have plunged nationalized banks into a deeper financial crisis, does not care about the problem of pensioners in connection with eps 95 pension.
Meanwhile, 1.64 lakh pensioners died due to various reasons fighting against the unjust system of low pension. There were 62,644 deaths in 2017-18, 59,043 in 2018-19, 39,433 in 2019-20 and 2,883 pensioners till September this year.

The NAC listens patiently to all promises made by the current government with confidence in the government and pacify concerned groups, associations, and not motivating towards agitations with a hope that the Central Government will take a positive decision one day.
